I love living in kings heath but absolutely cannot stand the amount of rubbish on the streets and would like to see if other like minded residents can come up with any solutions to the problem.
I propose a 3 pronged attack to the rubbish problem.
1. Residents taking responsibility - do not fly tip, litter the streets and do not stuff you litter in the public bins on the streets (you know who you are) and if you see someone leaning out of their car and dumping rubbish on the street say something. And would it hurt for you to sweep up outside the front of your house from time to time.
2. Council taking more action - implement fines for fly tipping and littering and take action by cleaning residential pathways where wheelie bins are not in place.
3. Vendors on the high street - Although i appreciate that a lot of the rubbish that is strewn across our streets is caused by a large number of opportunist rubbish raiding seagulls and magpies that like to peck away at the newly deposited bin bags on rubbish collection days. There seems to be an even greater amount of rubbish attributed from fast food wrappers and empty drinks cartons and I for one would like to see the Vendors of such stores taking more responsibility, I do not wish to see them fined as i do not think this necessarily is fair to them but would like to see them at least sweep up the streets outside the frontage of their establishments - surely that is not too much to ask?
If anyone has any ideas on how we can clean up the streets please share them...............
