The daughter of a former Birmingham Lord Mayor is appealing for heartless thieves to return a park bench dedicated to the memory of her father.
The bench, dedicated to Harold Blumenthal, was stolen from Highbury Park despite being screwed into a concrete plinth.
Miranda Blumenthall is appealing to the public for information. "Highbury Park was full of amazing memories and great times for my father," she said. "The bench was intended to provide enjoyment for everybody including our family. To have it taken away in such a callous manner is so sad."
Police think the thieves made off with the light-coloured wooden from the slope overlooking the pool sometime on Tuesday 24 July. The plaque is in silver coloured metal with black writing which reads: "In memory of Alderman Harold Blumenthall 1924-2010 Lord Mayor of Birmingham 1989-1999".
PC Sarah Russell who is investigating said: "The theft has caused the family some distress, so we want to find the bench, and the thieves, as soon as possible.
"There is very little monetary value in the bench so the crime makes very little sense. I would appeal for anybody who knows anything about the theft to get in touch with us."
Anybody with information should contact the Moseley neighbourhood team on 101.
