This April we're bursting with activities and shows for all the family over the Easter break, whether it's chasing down monsters or exploring dance for the first time. We've also got innovative new theatre from young company Idle Motion and Birmingham Rep - and that's just for starters!

 
 

Misunderstood Monsters

Saint George, the monster catcher, is on his most dangerous mission yet and he needs your help. But are the monsters as monstrous as they seem or are they simply misunderstood? Overcome your fear of fiends, spiders, aliens and dragons through the power of spoken word and music with Aoife Mannix and Janie Armour with site specific digital game playing by Andrew Wilson. Kill for a Seat: Rob Rouse & Rich Wilson

Kill for a Seat is our monthly comedy club at mac birmingham, held on the first Friday of every month and hosted by Silky. This month, Silky is joined by the hilarious Rob Rouse and Rich Wilson.

Fleur Darkin: Blake Diptych - Innocence

Fleur Darkin returns to mac birmingham with a show for all ages. Inspired by William Blake’s boyhood visions this dance piece is split into two shows especially designed for two different age groups. Enter a space of enchantment, adventure and discovery. Innocence brings to life the childhood imagination of the poet painter William Blake. Come and meet the Tyger, the Lamb as well as young William himself.

Fleur Darkin: Blake Diptych - Experience

Inspired by the ‘glorious luminary’ William Blake, and following his inquiry into the human imagination as the body of God, the Blake Diptych brings together a company of world class dancers and musicians to inquire into the mystery of being.

Making Tracks: DoubleDuo feat. Allami & Al-Khatib, Hbeisch & Piccioni

Thu 12 Apr, 8pm | Tickets £12 (£9)

Individual and energetic Iraqi artist Khyam Allami is joined by palestinian oud player Ahmad Al-Khatib, amazing percussionist Youssef Hbeisch and Italian frame drum master Andrea Piccioni for a performance based on the new 2x2 idea of oud versus percussion.

Total Theatre Award-nominees and Fringe Sell-Out Idle Motion return with a stunning visual kaleidoscope of images and stories to captivate their audience. As a couple's relationship crumbles and they’re confronted by its debris, Britain is hit by the unexpected 1987 storm. Using exciting and evocative staging, multimedia and personal recollections, Idle Motion pick their way through the chaos left behind during those remarkable six hours.

On top of our fantastic selection of family shows, we're brimming with creative workshops to keep children entertained - from Story Making to Hats & Bonnets, plus a couple of sessions the whole family can enjoy together.

We've also got practical short courses for grown-ups and young people such as Introduction to Web Design and Graphic Art.

This exhibition features thirty-five of the best contemporary craft makers from the East and West Midlands, and is a partnership between Craftspace and mac birmingham in collaboration with The National Centre for Craft & Design
