A welcome addition to Kings Heath's true High Street, the new Fletcher's Bar has opened in York Road. Looking not unlike an upmarket bistro/coffee shop from the outside, large windows and an intriguing ex-church doorway lead the way to its true identity, an upmarket ..er..bar. And a good one at that. The owners (Tracey & Brett) gave me a warm personal welcome, I had the chance to sample the excellent two real ales on offer and I am assured the wine list is equally sourced. What did impress was the simplicity of it all. The decor is best described as understated shabby-chic, the space the bar offers will easily accommodate the weekend crowds ( I am told live music is planned), and tapas style food to be on the menu shortly.
I fail to see how this will not prove a success. This is what Kings Heath is all about, small diverse enterprises serving an equally diverse community and I, after two visits, count myself a regular.
